Convention Materials 1922-1962.

This series consists of materials from the biennial and triennial conventions of the Women's Missionary Society/United Lutheran Church Women. Material from each convention from 1920 to 1962 is included in this series. Types of material include, among others, registration booklets and forms, name badges, convention programs, Lutheran Woman's Work "Convention Number" issues; daily convention bulletins; proposed amendments to the society's constitution; copies of constitution and bylaws adopted at the conventions; bulletins from convention church services, prayer services, and commissioning services; newspaper clippings; and biennial and triennial progress reports. Starting with the 1943 convention, the records also contain the printed minutes from each convention. Also included is a substantial amount of material from ULCA Young Women's Conferences, which met the same time as the general conventions. The series also contains items pertaining to the 1918 convention at which the women's missionary societies of the General Council, General Synod, and United Synod of the South merged. There is a handwritten, draft copy of the proposed order of business and what appears to be several draft copies of the convention's minutes. The daily convention bulletins were first issued by the Executive Board, but starting with the 1928 convention, Lutheran Woman's Work assumed that responsibility. Each convention's material may not include a complete set of convention bulletins, but there is a complete, bound set in box 3, folder 7. Also, not every convention's material includes a Lutheran Woman's Work "Convention Number" issue. The last biennial convention was held in 1934. Beginning in 1937 conventions were held every three years. At the 1955 convention it was decided to change the name of the organization to United Lutheran Church Women and 1958 convention materials reflect that change. Records are arranged chronologically.
